variance expiration
Variance Overview
Variances connected with physical requirements may be granted by the State of Iowa Department of Corrections (DOC) for existing facilities for a specific period of time. Variance expiration dates are determined at the time granted. In determining whether to grant a variance, the DOC considers, among other factors, the nature of the standard, previous noncompliance, cost, population, alternative means of complying with the intent of the standard, length of time requested for the variance, the consequences if the variance is not granted, and the safety and security of the facility or individuals.
Variance Expiration Date
March 22, 2018
Impact
Current jail will be reduced to 24 beds with capacity to hold up to 36 inmates resulting in further overcrowding and an additional cost increase for outsourcing inmates.
